Galactica helps practices review technical risks to patient information, prioritize safeguards and organize evidence. For regulated entities, the HIPAA Security Rule covers administrative, physical and technical protection of electronic protected health information. We support your compliance work; we do not certify compliance.
Start with the information
Identify where electronic patient information is created, stored and shared. Include workstations, cloud services, remote access, vendors and backup copies. Use those findings to scope a risk analysis and prioritize remediation.
Put safeguards into practice
Review individual access, device protection, logging, backup and recovery, and staff procedures. Document ownership and decisions so technical changes become part of the practice’s working process.
Keep evidence usable
Maintain records of your reviews, training, policies and remediation. Revisit safeguards as systems, staffing or risks change. Coordinate legal and contractual questions with the practice’s compliance advisers.
Authoritative guidance
Questions we get asked
What is HIPAA compliance in healthcare?
It is the ongoing work of meeting the HIPAA rules that apply to your organization. Security controls are one part of that responsibility; privacy and breach-response duties also need attention.
Is HIPAA compliance mandatory?
Applicable HIPAA requirements are mandatory for covered entities and business associates. Applicability depends on the organization and its activities, not simply on employing people or holding health-related information.
Is HIPAA compliance a certification?
Galactica provides support and documentation, not a compliance certification. A product label or vendor assurance does not replace your organization’s responsibilities.
Does HIPAA require MFA?
Assess authentication requirements against the rule currently in effect, your risks and applicable contracts. MFA is an important safeguard to discuss; do not treat a proposed rule as an effective requirement.
What does an employer need to do?
First establish whether the organization or relevant health-plan activity is subject to HIPAA. Your compliance adviser can determine applicability; we help with the technical safeguards in scope.
Does an employee form make a practice compliant?
No single form establishes compliance. Policies, appropriate training, safeguards and ongoing reviews need to work together.
Is the assessment free?
The free offer is a 15-minute Cyber Strategy Session with Tanner. Any detailed assessment, implementation or ongoing service is separately scoped and quoted.
