Galactica helps small companies prepare for SOC 2 by reviewing technical controls, identifying gaps and organizing evidence. SOC 2 is an examination and report performed by an independent CPA firm. Our role is readiness support, not certification or issuance of the report.
Define scope first
Discuss the system, customer commitments and criteria in scope with your auditor. Map the accounts, services, vendors and people involved so the readiness work addresses the right environment.
Close and track gaps
Review access controls, endpoint security, change processes, monitoring and recovery. Assign owners and track remediation. Technical tooling should support documented processes rather than substitute for them.
Prepare evidence
Organize records that show how controls operate. Agree evidence needs and the examination period with the auditor. A readiness project cannot guarantee an audit result.
Authoritative guidance
Questions we get asked
Do I need SOC 2?
That depends on your customers, contracts and business goals. Discuss the expectation with the customer requesting it and an independent auditor before setting the scope.
Is SOC 2 mandatory?
It may be requested by customers or contracts. Determine the requirements for your situation rather than assuming every small business needs a report.
Who needs SOC 2 certification?
SOC 2 results in a report, not a certification issued by Galactica. Businesses handling customer information may pursue a report to support customer assurance.
Why would a customer ask for a SOC 2 report?
It helps the customer evaluate controls relevant to the services you provide. Scope, timing and the report’s contents matter; a label alone does not answer every security question.
What does readiness mean for a small company?
It means understanding the scope, implementing appropriate controls and collecting evidence before the independent examination.
How does this apply to SaaS companies?
Map the service, infrastructure, accounts and operational processes with the auditor. Readiness work should reflect how your application and business actually operate.
Is the assessment free?
The free offer is a 15-minute Cyber Strategy Session with Tanner. Any detailed assessment, implementation or ongoing service is separately scoped and quoted.
